Mel Holder

Born in New York, USA, of Panamanian descent, Mel Holder is a minister, musician (producer/arranger/composer/performer), ambassador and promoter of the healing power of Jesus Christ, whose unique gifting has touched numerous lives around the world. With a singular ability to connect with diverse audiences, Mel has ministered in countries like Japan, China, Trinidad, Russia and Azerbaijan, among others.

Mel has appeared on numerous television shows including The Candi Staton Show and Showtime at the Apollo with Kirk Franklin. In addition, his international ministry has allowed him to minister with such accomplished artists as Fred Hammond, Vickie Winans, Timothy Wright, Nancy Jackson, Trinitee 5:7, Kurt Carr and Angelo and Veronica.

As an instrumentalist, Mel’s mission is threefold: to stay pure to his musical gifting; to uplift and encourage his audiences, and to bring unity and awareness by bridging the gap through his unique musical interpretations. Mel’s music flows from his relationship with the Creator. In his 1999 release, ‘‘Now and Forever’’ the Continuation, he clearly celebrates the gifts given to him and this Jazz/Gospel project made its presence known on Billboard’s Top Contemporary Christian Music chart. His Christmas project, “A Gift So Special”, was released in 2000 and features renditions of “Little Drummer Boy” and “Silent Night”.

Mel’s newest release, “Mel Holder Music Book Vol. 1”, is an extension of his previous efforts and a trailblazer in new territories. It debuted on the Billboard charts in three categories: Contemporary Jazz Album, Jazz Album, and Gospel Album. The project brings an abundance of radio friendly hits including the first single, “When Your Spirit Fills The Room”. The evolution of this song exemplifies the oneness we all can experience with God regardless of race, gender or age.  Accentuated by the anointed vocals of Latasha S. Jordan, Mel’s simple, yet melodic sax presentation completes this dynamic worship and praise phenomenon.

In 1999, Mel received the NAACP achievement award in Charlotte, North Carolina and, contributing to the lives of youth, he has served as a judge for the Essence and Pepsi competitions.
